WHOLE SEX:
Beyond a Memoir, Visions For Being Together Bravely
Until the age of 22, I was a deeply homophobic, transphobic, anti-choice Evangelical Christian. I was outspoken about the “sins” of being queer and trans, and I frequently protested outside of Planned Parenthood with my family and congregation, acts which I believed with all my heart were compassionate.
For the past fifteen years, I have been proudly out as queer and trans, working as a sex educator and activist for Queer justice and joy. This book, WHOLE SEX: Beyond a memoir, visions for being together bravely, is the manifestation of a mandate to share what I know and have experienced from my rare dual perspective. It feels scary to do so, but in response to the increasing urgency of this political moment, I am finally ready to articulate what I’ve learned about wholeness through opposing and often deeply antagonistic beliefs about identity, faith, sex, and sexuality. I trust that by making visible how I opened up, my story will ripple outward and catalyze openings in others, which I trust will ripple outward farther than can be measured.
Springing from a blend of heart, humility, and humor, this book will resonate with anyone who is hungry for on-ramps to thinking about sex and love beyond culturally dominant scripts of what sex and love “should” be. I intend it as a gift to my LGBTQI+ communities, especially those who have been harmed by the church and/or have challenging relationships with their families of origin. I pray that this book will also be a healing salve to Christians with an open heart and families of other queer and trans people. May this book open up more than it shuts down in all who encounter it.
THE WHOLE SEX WORKBOOK:
Practices For Being Together Bravely
An 18-week workbook dedicated to intentional intimacy and pleasure, The Whole Sex Workbook is similar in tone and form to The Artists’ Way by Julia Cameron. Comprised of tools, meditations, perspectives, and reflections from the past decade of my sex coaching practice, this workbook is a steady, gentle inviation to grow in ways that are often scary and tender to hold to the light. Topics include Loving Boundaries, Relational Healing and Attachment Styles, Self-Pleasure / Self-Romance, Composing Shame, Pleasure As Life Force, Ecosystems of Care, Giving and Receiving, Liberatory Power Dynamics and Kink, Gender Complexity Exploration, Trauma-Informed Communication, and beyond. Whether straight, Queer, single, partnered, or any combination or anything in between, this book is for anyone who yearns to deepen in intimacy with themself and others and to expand their capacity for pleasure.
